For the last month I’ve been volunteering at The Crucible in Oakland, teaching kids how to wrench on bikes in an after-school program called “Earn A Bike.” On the first week the kids pick a “bike” (usually a safe and shiny frame covered in broken cables & housings… and if we’re lucky, there’s one derailleur and maybe a wheel) from a pile of rescued rides in need of much love.
